I ordered this set for a novice chess player and HUGE Civil War fan. The pieces are quite detailed and nicely weighted. I think it is easier to tell the pieces apart (he has trouble with that)It shipped quickly, in good condition. The only negative is that the pieces are tall and our board is tall. I am a bit short, so when played on a table, it is hard for me to see the entire board. I can solve this by getting a flat board, so it's not a problem with these pieces. This may sound like a personal problem, but if you're buying for a younger person, just be aware that you'll likely want a flat board.
