I got this game when I was like 12 or 13, when it was very new (yeah, I'm that old) and it's set up on my living-room floor right now in preparation for my husband to join me over pizza to enjoy a rousing game of Rediscovering Someone's Childhood.
This is a gateway drug to D&D. It's a board game very, very loosely based on Brown Box D&D--the original, before AD&D/2nd Ed and 3rd Ed and the subsequent WoW Fanservice Ed. You play one of four "classes" (elf, hero, superhero, or wizard, pretty much like Brown Box), wandering through a "dungeon" full of rooms whose levels are represented by bright colors. Dull mustard-yellow is level 1, progressing up to pretty aqua for level 6. Whatever hero you play, you hang out in levels appropriate to your class and kill monsters for treasure. Different classes need to get different point values of treasure (elves and heroes, being wussies, only have to acquire 10,000GP of treasure, while wizards, the most powerful, must amass 30,000)...
